I’m sitting on the plane on my way to NYC for a long weekend to celebrate Mother’s Day, my brother’s birthday and my dad’s big 6-0. Brother and dad have the same birthday, so this time of year is always fun!

Packing my towelettries this morning got me to thinking about a question i get a lot: “What products do I bring while i’m on vacation”. Answer is it truly depends on where you are going and what you will be doing so let me break it down by destination:
Destination: Quick work trip (few days or less)
- Bring your whole regimen. There is no reason to alter the products that you are using for such a short amount of time.
Destination: Climate much more humid than what you are used to
- If you use a moisturizer you can bring it but i would use it sparingly.
- Detoxifying clay mask
- Oil control pads (if you’re prone to breaking out)
Destination: Climate much dryer than what you are used to
- If you use a moisturizer you’ll definitely want to use it twice daily
- If you use a retinoid you may want to back down to every other night (DON’T STOP IT ENTIRELY THOUGH)
Destination: Beach
- Leave your prescription products at home (retinoid & Hydroquinone) because chances are you are going to get some sun
- SPF and make sure to re-apply A LOT
- Antioxidant serum to help protect and repair from the sun
- Moisturizer if you have one. If you don’t use one no need to bring one
- Chapstick with SPF for the lippies
Destination: Skiing
- Mountain climates are always a lot drier and the sun reflecting on the snow is so intense so leave the prescriptions at home (retinoid & Hydroquinone). If you’re using a natural tightener (non HQ you are fine to use that)
- SPF and re-apply A LOT
- Antioxidant serum to help protect from the sun
- You’ll probably want some moisturizer for the chin area as that always seems to get a little wind burn
- Chapstick with SPF for the lippies
I hope this helps! This is just a general rule of thumb to help keep your skin as healthy as possible while enduring the climate change associated with travel. Travelling always wreaks a little havoc on our skin and there isn’t really much you a can do about that. I always recommend a facial treatment when returning to get your skin back in gear!
