Are you one of the many struggling with acne? Adult acne is at an all time high and pinpointing the triggers has never been more complex. Skin care products, foods, hormones, poor exfoliation, sleep, supplements…all these can trigger acne in an acne prone individual. Part of my job as an aesthetician and acne prone person is to help us all better manage our acne and reduce the inflammation in our skin. Some triggers are no brainers (like duh don’t sleep with your makeup on), but others are a little sneakier.
HAIRCARE! Wait what?! I’m going to be honest with you i’ve been treating my acne for YEARS with countless treatments and products, yet never really thought about the obvious. Shampoo, conditioners, smoothing creams, hair spray….all these styling hair products are PACKED with potentially acne causing ingredients!
The graph below speaks for itself!!!

FINDINGS:
There is an absence (dark blue) of hair product residue on the skin before applying hair products to the hair. After applying hair products to the hair, a significant amount of product residue gets on – and stays on – the skin (even rinse-off products!). Even 2-4 hours after using hair products, residue remains on the skin.

WOW!!! So there is no doubt in my mind that it is absolutely possible, and likely, that your hair products are contributing to your breakouts!
Most haircare products are packed with:
- Oils & silicones
- Phthalates
- Sulfates
- Parabens
- Dyes
- Gluten
All of these ingredients could clog your pores or create inflammation in your skin which could then trigger acne.
Fortunately I came across an amazing hair care line that is formulated especially for acne prone skin!
Harvard trained Dermatologist Iris Rubin made the connection and created the SEEN hair care line and guys, it’s a game changer!!! I had the pleasure of speaking with her a couple of weeks ago and she literally confirmed all my thoughts on acne and how to treat it! Acne is not just a face problem, it’s a whole body problem. You have to look at the big picture. Everything that you are ingesting and applying to your ENTIRE body can contribute to breakouts. Your hair being one of them!!!
Shampoo and conditioner residue gets everywhere! Face, shoulders, back, buttocks…everywhere!
I made the switch to the SEEN shampoo, conditioner, and blow-out creme. These products are free of any comedogenic ingredients and instead made of shea butter cetyl esters, nourishing plant-sugar derived squalane and smoothing, protecting plant-sugar derived hemisqualene.
Not going to lie, I was a little nervous about how they would feel on my hair considering i’m pretty particular about my hair care these days. I don’t want my hair feeling greasy or looking weighed down. My immediate reaction was “wow, this smells amazing!” I let my hair air dry to get a good idea of frizz control and how shiny it would look. Amazing! Honestly my hair feels clean, looks smooth, and smells soooo good! To be honest it felt like my regular hair care products, which in this case is a good thing! Feels great but the ingredients are not going to make me break out. It’s a total win-win!!!
Check out SEEN’s webpage Helloseen.com and IG Page for more info and how to order!!!
They’re offering 10% OFF your first order with code: HELLO10
If you’re struggling with acne or in my opinion rosacea too I recommend you switch your hair products to SEEN so you can confidently rule out hair products contributing to your breakouts 🙂

Marie
